The night of the Odalisque

with Jacqueline Takara

The malice in her gaze and motions made her unwilling to be the chosen one of the creature that was lodged in the corner of that universe. This brought her the gift of
eternal life and also the curse of being the point of balance to ward off the fury of the beast – and to be her prisoner. From time to time one could feel the temperature rising, first on the ground and then in everything, like an invisible fire echoing through every corner.
And then she knew, it was time for the great annual fury. If the movements did not please, everyone would die in the filthy clutches of their tormentor. Then she would get
up and do the ritual, she would dance. She moved her legs, feet, arms, hands and waists uniquely. That was why she had been chosen and would not deny her great vocation to the curse imposed upon her. She moved, expressed herself from head to toe, seducing the creature until it went into trance again.
